About the Work
The theme song of KOKUYOSA, “KAEDE,” was created in 2024 by Kochi Yosakoi Ambassador KIZUNA International Team (hereafter “KIZUNA International Team”).
KIZUNA International Team is an international yosakoi group with members from over 20 countries. Many of its dancers have found joy, lifelong connections, and personal growth through yosakoi, and the team continues its activities with a heartfelt wish to “give back” to the community.
Meaning of the Title
The title “KAEDE” was born from a desire to express both the team’s deep love for yosakoi and their connection to Canada, where many of the members live.
“Kaede” means “maple tree” in Japanese, symbolizing Canada, and was chosen to represent the bond between Japan and Canada.
Background of the Production
This work was made possible with support from the Japanese Canadian Legacies Society.
It blends a grand, expansive melody inspired by the vast landscapes of Canada with traditional Japanese sounds, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind creation.
The wish of KIZUNA International Team, “to connect the world through yosakoi,” deeply resonates with the spirit of KOKUYOSA. Out of this strong sense of harmony, “KAEDE” was offered as the official theme song of KOKUYOSA.
Music Production

The production was led by the Kochi-based band, Furachinarhythm.
Lyrics and composition were created by Naofumi Mori, a musician from Kochi, who also performs as the vocalist.
His powerful and passionate voice intertwines with flowing, nature-inspired melodies, stirring the hearts of listeners.
Mori will also appear on the KOKUYOSA stage, filling the venue with energy through his dynamic performance.
Choreography

The choreography was created by Takako Segawa, a contemporary dancer originally from Kochi who is now based in Canada and active worldwide.
Set to the dynamic, energetic music, her choreography allows dancers from North America, Japan, and beyond to come together as one. The freestyle section especially gives each participant the chance to express the pure joy of dancing while strengthening their bonds with one another. Segawa will also appear at KOKUYOSA, both performing and leading workshops, creating a space where dancers and audiences can celebrate together.
