About the team
Kogyoku is a fresh YOSAKOI team based in New York, named after the “Big Apple.” Formed in summer 2021, the team performs works that blend modern genres like hip-hop and jazz, out of respect for New York’s culture. Kogyoku’s goal is to create spaces where Americans and Japanese-Americans can experience Japanese culture and learn Japanese — building opportunities for exchange through weekly workshops, spreading Japanese culture across the U.S. and contributing to New York’s Japanese-American community. One of Kogyoku’s hallmarks is the diversity of its members: based in the multicultural city of New York, the team brings together members from many different backgrounds. At this KOKUYOSA, through passionate, powerful dance and the bright sound of the naruko, we’ll share our pride and love for YOSAKOI.
