About the team

Ōzora JCAM Yosakoi Ensemble was established in May 2026 to bring the joy of Yosakoi to Winnipeg and dance together under the prairie sky. The team began after a workshop led by Yosakoi Ambassador, Emiko Tanaka and hosted by the Japanese Cultural Association of Manitoba. Costumes and naruko were donated from other Yosakoi teams in Japan to encourage a new group to start their journey.

Under the leadership of MacKenzie Dyck, the ensemble of 20 started weekly practices at the JCAM cultural center in Winnipeg. They debuted performing at the Japanese Pavilion for Folklorama, Winnipeg’s annual two-week cultural festival. This is their first time attending Kokuyosa and the team is excited to learn and be inspired by the creativity of Yosakoi groups in Canada and from around the world.
